Tell me about yourself

Give the listener a relevant professional through-line. You are not required to tell your life story or disclose personal information.

What it may be testing

Can you select the experience most relevant to this role and explain why it leads here?

An interviewer may have a different purpose. Listen to the exact wording and ask for clarification if needed.

  1. Start with the professional theme that best connects your experience to this role.
  2. Choose one or two proof points rather than listing every job.
  3. Explain why this role is the logical next step, without claiming it is your dream job.
  4. Stop after the relevant through-line and let the interviewer choose the next detail.

Study the structure, not the details

Fictional example: I have spent the last three years turning support and product data into weekly decisions for an operations team. The work I enjoyed most was finding why customers abandoned one onboarding step, testing the measurement with support colleagues, and helping the team prioritise a simpler flow. I am now looking for a role where that combination of analysis and cross-functional decision support is central to the job.
